rantings
well finally i am done all of my midterms (except music but that doesn't count) so now i am left with pain in my right hand and some free time. thus, i decided to write an entry finally. i mean i've got a lot of complaining to do that's just been waiting to be written down. so this might be a longish entry so just bear with me. a lot has happened and i've got some shit to say. here i'll break it into sections for you.***
ok so i had my dumbass history exam today which i had it all down and thought that i would do okay. and i still knew it all the problem was i didn't have enough time. my dumbass professor really needs to get his priorities straight -- he spent all of ONE lecture talking about the buildup of the russian empire and almost the entire romonov dynasty. Yes an entire span of 3+ centuries. Amazing! yes he freely admits that he skipped over a significant part of history just so he can cover his own little theories. he is so biased about this subject and he doesn't teach the other perspectives. Now some people complain that political bias is dangerous, like, oh no if my professor is pro-choice i won't learn about the sanctity of life blah blah. But what i think is that anyone can see through those kinds of biases. It is bias in history, psychology, or something like that, where a well-rounded education is sacrificed for your teacher's bias, then that is the real problem. ANYWAY, back to my midterm. So yeah this one lecture he did on the russian empire, he wants us to write one of our "long" 25 minute essay questions on them. Now there is no way in hell that any normal person could write an essay on this subject in 25 minutes. So I was really pressed for time and by the end i was just sort of listing things and not really writing in complete sentences. But hey that is what they told us to do in AP psych, and if its good enough for the APA, it better as hell be good enough for the AU History department.
Right after that I had my computers exam, which was easy. I was kind of worried because i didn't have time to study for it, but it was really easy. Like one of the questions was "what is the difference between instant messenger, email, and chat?" and i was like, hell yes.
okay so obviously there has been a lot of talk about gay marriage recently. I think its cool, its kind of like we're going through this revolutionary time. Although I still think it will be a while before gays are treated like full citizens. There are so many issues in this country where i'm just like . . .what the fuck. why are we even debating this issue? I'm not afraid to say that I'm a fairly liberal person, and ow there are some issues where although i disagree with the conservative side i can see the merits of the argument and see where they are coming from. Um, Gay Marriage is definitly not one of them. I'm sorry but i cannot possibly accept any reasoning behind denying any specific group of people, who inflict no harm or dammage on others, the same rights as "normal" citizens. some people say that allowing gay marriage will open the flood gates to pedophilia or rape or something like that. But no. Sexual relations between two consenting adults should not be regulated. There is nothing wrong with it because it doesn't harm anyone. No, it will not lead to the disintegration of the "sacred" institution of marriage (which i have a hard time believing the sacred part seeing that 60% end in divorce). And family values I can assure you will be upheld. You know that people must be wrong when they start to make vague accusations like that. Anyway, that's just what I think . . .
I think I may join the peace corps when i graduate. excellent way to buy time to decide what it is i want to do with my life. Maybe I could go to Africa or to Ukraine.
You know, I was talking to my roommate last night, all this shit going down in Haiti, and also studying Russia, has made me wonder if for some areas democracy is just not "natural." I mean Haiti, which has had a history as long as ours has had only two of its leaders complete his term. Thirty never quite did. And Russia only has had brief periods of limited government, and right now is not one of them. I mean Putin has dissolved his entire cabinet and made it so he has a 100% chance of winning the upcoming election. That is not democracy. What makes democracy happen? how come it works in some places but not in others?
Ow. My hand still really hurts so, in an effort to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome, I am going to stop typing for now. ciao!
